The Truckee Meadows Trails Initiative (TMT) is a community-led initiative designed to improve the range of opportunities for residents and visitors by identifying and establishing non-motorized routes for greater trail connectivity in the Truckee Meadows region. The initiative started in 2017 with a coalition of land managers, government agencies, non-profits, and private businesses that all came together to create the TMT Plan and Report. This led to the formation of the TMT Working Group and the creation of the Truckee Meadows Regional Trails Plan. The Plan outlines a vision of a healthy Truckee Meadows community connected by trails and provides a framework for completing future projects.
TMRPA aided TMT staff during the development of this plan by providing data through GIS and creating an inventory of existing trails, providing community survey support, assisting in plan development and outreach.
Recreation and trails are a way of life in the Truckee Meadows. Our community is growing with new citizens, companies, and visitors all coming to the area in large part for the outdoor recreation opportunities. With all this growth comes a need for investment in a sustainable trail network that connects communities with parks, open space, and surrounding public land. Trails play an integral role in economic development, health benefits, environmental benefits, and quality of life.

A summarized description of trail program activities and trail network improvements for the Truckee Meadows region
TMT’s mission is to work with community and agency partners to create a regional, sustainable, system trail network that enhances the quality of life for Truckee Meadows residents. The TMT plan lays out the goals and objectives that will help guide future trail projects in the region. Our Trails Coordinator is currently working with our coalition partners to identify priority projects as well as implementation of the key recommendations identified within the Regional Trails Plan.
